I could understand a hotel being worried about drunks/wild parties that could affect other guests. Or perhaps the rule is there to appease the Liquor Control Board which may consider the rooms 2B 'licensed premises' due to Room Service serving booze.
However, I consider it the Guests' own darn business what to drink in the rooms.
