So, I always get the carrier airline confirmation number(which is, of course different than the Air Canada booking/reference number) and either call that airline, or go online to "manage my booking". I do this to get my desired seat assignment, and peace of mind that the carrier airline has my reservation. In fact, I usually go online to double/triple check my booking to make sure my seats have not been moved around too - happened twice to me.
All of this.
I had to call three times to get my TK confirmation number on my recent online Aeroplan booking. The first two times I was told that because I booked so far in advance, my reservation was in a ticketing queue and would be ticketed "sometime between now (last February) and November". Um, nope. The third time I got a sympathetic agent who was able to keep me on hold while she contacted ticketing and got it done. But sheesh.
It does make me think that most people out there who aren't frequent flyers won't know to do this. This issue seems rampant with Aeroplan reward tickets, and it's unbelievable to me that there's been no move to pressure Aeroplan to fix it.
