Can a hotel tell guests not to bring glass bottles up?
This is a Sheraton hotel during Spring Break. Regardless they had a supposed policy by security guards who stand by the elevators not to allow glass bottles up (beer, wine, soda, etc). I was staying there for three weeks and basically told the security guard I am here for a long time, you know me and walked up. A few times my bag was searched, and I felt like my privacy was invaded. The airport wasnt so intrusive.
I noticed other people had lots of issues, and would have to pay $5 bribes (one even paid $10). One person was told to put it in plastic bottle. This includes not only HS and College Students, but people in their 20s who paid regular rates and starwood employees from other hotels who were staying there.
I did not go to the Front Desk to verify this policy but I was wondering if a hotel could do this. The Hyatt, Hilton (where I stayed before) and Marriots do not have this policy. It also seems a little screwed up since there are glasses in the room so you are basically pouring a plastic bottle into glass. Whats the point...
My major question is CAN A HOTEL SEARCH YOUR BAG AND RESTRICT WHAT CAN BE BROUGHT UPSTAIRS (GLASS BOTTLES)? EVEN IF YOU ARE THERE FOR 25 DAYS
