However, my wife and I were upgraded on our honeymoon on a flight from LHR to Cyprus on Cyprus Airways. But that was 33 years ago. United's pecking order likely didn't exist back then.
UA GAs who upgrade your family members ahead of elites on the upgrade list might find themselves looking for alternative employment. Tell that to your family members. If they really believe that they have a chance of upgrades, they are living in an alternative reality.
I explained that their best shot would be a reduced price cash offer before check-in. We have always paid for J or booked with miles and expect to sit in the class for which we pay.
