Not that I think anyone's actually been charged this...

But if you get an annual fee demand and BEA won't budge, the workaround is to open an i-account and deposit $5K into it. That's a qualifying account for free waiver.

With BEA, having an existing account won't disqualify you for payroll or packaged banking offers (with Citi it does).
