That being said, everyone keeps saying "go into the centre", so i'll pose another question. Wikitravel says it's 36 kr for a 3 zone ticket that will get me into the centre. It's valid for 75 minutes....can I use that as a return ticket if I only want to stay in the city for an hour?
If the weather is good and time we're sufficient, the better beaches from a view perspective are the ones I see when across the bridge from CPH. But 5 hours isn't the kind of time where I would suggest a visitor take the risk on their own of everything going smoothly and being able to enjoy the time without worrying about the clock too much.
Walking from CPH toward the DR office can take a good chunk of time, but the view really isn't anything extraordinary for the most part.
The Copenhagen zone ticket is not direction specific AFAIK. It's basically all you can consume on the allowed modes of transport within the selected zones regardless of direction and even backtracking as long as you get out of the transport system on that ticket before the ticket expires. A ticket allowing 75 minutes of travel can work to go from the airport to the main rail station and back.
