Eta: I just remembered that on my last international arrival at SHA, I sat next to a guy who was doing visa free transit. I'm not sure what line he used, but we showed up at baggage claim at the same time (2 minute line that day, in spite of the fact that we were among the last people to deplane a packed 330).

I've done it at PVG. Super easy. There was only 1 person in front of me. There was plenty of signage to tell you where to go.
