Anyway, I think if you get your onward BP from the transit desk, don't head up but go straight to immigrations. I believe if they don't issue you a new BP landside they wouldn't know you are due tax if it even is a thing.
This may be what you "think" and what you "believe", but sorry to tell you, you're wrong. And so, yes, it really is a "thing"!
Technically, you're liable for the departure tax. But I said "you may have to pay" it because it depends on whether it gets picked up passing through security to get airside.
