This is completely incorrect. You have to reclear security after customs if you are flying onward from the US. There is no way to go directly from customs back to the airside portion of the terminal.
We did this in March.

Customs
Get bag
Customs
Give to porter
Up the escalator to the gates to Terminal 6
You had to go back through security after customs before being allowed back into the gates. If you didn't then somebody screwed up big time.
