Good news. Were they able to provide details on the routing it had taken? Many lost bags seem to do RTW trips on their way back home. Maybe fair compensation would be AP points representative of the bags journey, in J of course.

Random question a little off topic but how can any carrier transport these bags?

I'm sure like 99% of people here you've been on a flight with an announcement from the captain like this...

"There will be a short delay while we locate the luggage of a passenger who has not turned up for his flight. For obvious reasons we cannot take off until this luggage is offloaded. Handlers are currently attempted to locate it, we believe it's black and rectangular".

So if they can only transport ones luggage with the person, how do they handle bags that get delayed or sent to some far off country in error?
