If he does have to break it up himself, he should talk to the hotel manager first. Make sure he'll still qualify for whatever extended stay rate he's getting, make sure the tax implications are clear.
I'll forward this to him and we'll see if the hotel can work out something like this. One thing I didn't check is if my dad pays and gets reimbursed or his office pays directly.

In any case, there really aren't any in-hotel status benefits at a RI, so the main benefit would be the extra bonus points earned, and the UA silver status once he hits MR PLT.
The extra bonus points earned was my main motivation. My parents have a vacation coming up and would like for them to have some points available.
