I'm actually very interested in this thread. While it's true that car rental fees began about 3 decades ago, it is appalling that they keep growing. The latest, and most egregious, of these fees, is the customer facility charge. What the hell? Shouldn't the cost of the facility be a cost of doing business and be included in the price? And since you only use the facility when you pick up and then return the vehicle, why are you charged for each day of the rental? I'm astonished they can get away with it. I used to rent cars all the time at PHL, my local airport, since it was always where the best deals were, but since the advent of the customer facility fee ($8/day at PHL) I've not rented even once. Obviously they don't care. I wonder how much more the public will take.
