I saw the person in the seat in front of me get handed an iPad by a cabin crew member. It had a message along the lines of "15B: please acknowledge this high value customer and thank them for their loyalty, ask if...". (This was in Economy!). The customer read the message, looked somewhat confused, and handed it back.
Is this some special acknowledgement protocol I'm not aware of (certainly not seen the iPad handover before!) - perhaps a GGL/Prem thing

? Or is this just a novel execution of the standard Silver/Gold acknowledgment?
Not sure I would call it novel! I think I would be slightly embarrassed. Surely the right thing would be for the crew member to thank them genuinely and then discretely ask whatever the question was. Handing over the iPad seems a bit strange.
