I'm not sure what's the confusion it all about, but this particular suites sound pretty good and they look refreshed/modern/high quality...to me, at least.

Canal House Suites at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam

From 699 ft2 Max : x 3 people

65 SQM / 700 SQF, enjoy the historic ambiance of staying in a canal house suite with a private entrance, overlooking the picturesque canal, butler service, Sofitel MyBed, complimentary WIFI and Nespresso facilities, climate control, HD TV.

Pricing within the next 3 weeks 800E p/n. This might be good overall value.

Their restaurant sounds good too IMHO incl. the following description at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam:

At Restaurant Bridges, it's all about fish. Chef de Cuisine Bobby Rust serves modern and trendy dishes. Within a few months of opening, Bridges was heralded as one of the best restaurants in Holland.
The private entrance canal side sounds very unique, as does the hotel with a grand heritage, but it remains fascinatingly modern at the same time.

They also offer Duplex suites.

Cheers & Safe Travels.
