I've flown the 747-8 a few times from SHA-PEK and I always have enjoyed the upper deck. I would think from the states to PEK it would be the best/most comfortable non-stop Star Alliance option. Wish they would have taken a hint from CX and gone all aisle access in Biz Class, but the seats (similar to UA 787 and LH A380) are decent enough.

My problem with Chinese carriers is the arcane phone rules and the fact you need to beg them for drink refills. All these are secondary to a comfy seat.
