Range really is not an issue, you either go to San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas or eat at the hotels (or sometimes a Palapa next to one).
I like the Trailer Park at La Golandria, but it is not inexpensive. There are the usual suspects on the main street in Cabo, but have never been impressed with them. That said, there is a side street near the supermercado as one enters Cabo San Lucas from the North. It is not far past the Pemex on the main highway. Turn right and it is on the left side of this street. Cannot unfortunately remember its name and I do not know if they take credit cards, but it is excellent. It seems that it was called "Marisco" something and is an open air building right on the sidewalk.
A side note is that the Cabo area is expensive. You can always rent a condo with kitchen facilities and shop at the SuperMercade, but try to buy non-imported products as they are much cheaper.
In San Jose del Cabo, there are a number of restaurants around the central square. Some are excellent.
Sorry this post is not more definitive. Now as me about Puerto Vallarta and it will be more definitive. You might also try a search in this forum and Starwood.
