Arrow Hampton Inn & Suites Hood River {US-OR}

A three-night getaway last week at this brand-new hotel.

Reserved a King, junior suite with "River View." Was disappointed, though, that the "river" in question is NOT the Columbia but the Hood River. Given the way the hotel describes itself, I assumed this would be a **Columbia** river view (just like the astounding room-with-a-view of the Columbia we had at the Astoria, Oregon, Hampton Inn). The view is pleasant enough but it's NOT the Columbia.

Had originally booked three nights cash followed by one night on points. The Hilton Diamond Desk assured me that the reservations were linked so that we wouldn't have to change rooms on the last night. I also faxed the hotel asking for confirmation of that fact and asking for a response and never received one. When we decided to cancel the last night (the one on points) I asked the desk clerk if the reservations were indeed linked so that we would not have had to change rooms, and he said, no, they weren't linked at all and yes, we would have had to change rooms.

The decor and furnishings were the nicest of any Hampton I've every stayed in and nicer than most Hiltons or Doubletrees, for that matter.

The hotel did a decent job of soundproofing but one could still hear the freeway noise from our "river view" room, and it was much worse when there was a also a train going by.

Breakfast is the usual Hampton fare, better executed that most. But when the hotel is full, the breakfast area is too small.

If you like coffee, beware -- the coffee is scaldingly hot. Two cups plus a coffee cup sleeve and the coffee still couldn't be held in the hand without burning.

The side doors off of the breakfast area/lobby weren't well fitted and when the doors closed one of the doors on each side didn't latch securely. This is a potential security issue.

While I understand that Columbia River properties in August are pricey, this room was not worth what was charged given the "river" view.

This is also a hotel that cries out to have had balconies on the rooms (like so many other properties in Hood River and Cascade Locks); why they didn't do so is a puzzle and a missed opportunity.
