This was more outrage because of the state of that airline. I doubt if that had been the only issue the airline had, that we would have heard. Also there happened to be a MP on the flight. Again, another reason for the "outrage" that the minister had.
Nothing ever came of it, it's standard procedure when airline systems ate down. Heck they even have paper luggage tags that are ready to be filled out at most stations. I have one from just before NW folded their operations under the DL call sign. They're used so infrequently that in 2011 the paper luggage tag still had NW Orient printed on it.
