I've seen the Qatar version of this happen. Was on a flight from NBO-DOH recently and the man next to me in the middle seat in Y had 5 glasses of wine (they were filling them from normal 750ml wine bottles). He was perfectly pleasant for the most part, not disruptive or anything, but when he asked for #6 the crew said no. He then tried to protest and the crew said he would mark it down as a warning if he didn't stop asking. Pax eventually passed out (on me and the woman in the window seat, but that's another story) so I don't think the warning ever materialized.
