I will be booking a flight (USA-Italy roundtrip) for an in-law. Her USA passport shows 2 last names with no hyphen (e.g., Doe Smith). For others who may have 2 last names on their passport...

Should I put both as the passenger name in the reservation?

Or, only one (and if so, which one)?

If the ticket booking system doesn't allow a space, should I use both but omit the space or just use one (and, if so, which one)?
For such situations when it comes to booking flight tickets, I put both last names into the last name field; and I try it with or without a space in between the two names in the passport's last name field.
