CX obligation to rebook missed connections?

Hi gang,
Quick hypothetical question: am on a HKG-SFO-PDX leg next week, all on 1 ticket:

- HKG-SFO (CX 870) on CX ticket & metal
- SFO-PDX (AS 387) on CX ticket & Alaska Air metal

If by some crappy stroke of luck, and I miss my SFO-PDX connection, due to late takeoff from HKG-SFO...

1) Whose responsibility is it, to rebook my last leg - CX or Alaska Air?
2) Will I simply get moved to the next available CX/AA flight? If there's an earlier connection on another airline (say, Delta or United), can I request/insist to be transferred to that flight, at no extra cost to myself?

Just wondering, since the HKG-SFO flight tends to incur late takeoff from HKG, anywhere from 30m-3hrs (!) over the last 2 weeks.
