That said, if I were the son I would ask whether my J seat could still be swapped for a Y seat with parents saving avios or whatever and my being given a chance of more seclusion for the happy couple from the rest of the family for 12 hours, but I thought that my suggestions would be entirely beside the point!!
I did consider both son and girlfriend in economy at his suggestion but figured there'd be more chance of one seat becoming available in club at a later date rather than 2 so we could all sit in club.
