In the case of a cancellation you are entitled to be rebooked on the next available flight on the route booked and have duty of care (food, accomodation if required). No compensation if the delay/cancellation is due to weather or circumstances outside the airlines control. If compensation was due it is from the airline, not the travel agent.

But if you want to be proactive then you can suggest a voluntary re-routing to start from another point as you did. The airline or travel agent is not responsible for any extra costs associated with getting you to the new airport.

You seem to keep missing the point that the change was a voluntary change initiated by the passenger and accepted by the TA. As you said, the passengers priority was getting to their destination ASAP. I'm actually surprised the TA allowed the change and it was done quite quickly.

I'm not sure what having no phone reception at the airport or the TA not knowing the flight was cancelled has to do with anything. The travel agent certainly does not owe you any compensation in any case.
