That's a lot of territory to cover in 3-5 days. Too much driving, in my opinion.

I would choose either:
Northern California = Bay Area-Monterey<->Yosemite/Sequioa, or
Southern California = San Diego-Santa Barbara-LA

Regardless what you choose, if I'm around when you're in Monterey, I'd be happy to get you and your wife into the Monterey Bay Aquarium with guest passes.
