I agree. Take BA nonstop.

Not sure what your BA issue was 6 years ago, but I can assure you AA now has the potential to be much worse. In addition, JFK/NY Airports are an absolute disaster.

Being that you're likely going to be in Y either way, I'd just take one of the BA flights which lately haven't even been 6 hours inflight. See if you can snag a nice exit row seat, then it's better than MCE anyway.
