I fly BA metal TA in Y all the time these days as a plat, and quite prefer it to AA metal, which I take out of PHL or JFK every few months. I've found the food, service, and IFE consistently better on BA, and greatly appreciate the free wine/scotch. Although it is really nice to get MCE and the ability to book an exit row in advance on AA, as a plat you'll have a decent chance at getting an exit row on BA at the 24 hour mark (I've rarely failed to get one) which will give you the extra leg room.

To me, the benefit of MCE vs. a four hour layover, chance of IRROPS, and worse food/drink/IFE is a no brainer on the side of BA.

As another poster said, more details on why your last BA flight was so bad might help us give you feedback on the specifics of your concerns.
