Is there a better alternative than Google Voice for long-term parking of a number?
I left my previous employer three and a half years ago but for various reasons I retained my company provided cell phone.
They have now EOL'd that device and aren't willing to provide a new device, which is fair enough, but my options are to buy an AT&T Galaxy S7 or iPhone 6s at my own expense or to port the number out.
I have had this cell phone number for the last twelve years so the offer to just port it out is very welcome and I may at some point want to use it as a cell phone number again.
When I left California I ported my landline to VoIP.ms and found the porting process excruciating, so my natural inclination is to just port it to Google Voice but I am wondering if there are some other options I am overlooking?
I was surprised to learn that Skype doesn't support this.
