Emergency Evacuations and luggage

Seems to be a recent trend, having seen photos of passengers leaving the BA flight that evaluated in LA and the Emirates flight that crashed in Dubai, for passengers to take their luggage with them in an emergency evacuation.

It's only sheer luck that Emirates got their passengers out given the video (on the BBC - http://www.bbc.com/news/video_and_au...971855?SThisFB) there is SMOKE in the cabin ffs and they are still grabbing bags!

I travel with my passport and wallet attached to my person at all times.. no need to grab any luggage. If it burns, rather than luggage than me. If it doesn't I can collect it later!

Why are people so stupid????
