Others might have stayed there and wish to check toothpaste expiration dates to avoid being harmed by using spoiled toothpaste. OTOH, it's a big waste of time for everyone who has ever stayed in a newish HP to check the expiration dates on every tube of toothpaste they have or might have given to another person.
