I used to be neurotic about forcing myself to stay awake and forcing myself asleep at certain hours.
Nowadays I find it's better not to overdo compliance with time zones at the expense of misery on board.
My strategy has changed to:
* Eat if you're hungry
* Drink if you're thirsty
* Snooze if you're tired
* Change your watch to NYC time on boarding
* And have your notional aim of staying up until ~22.00 NYC time. An 'afternoon' snooze can most definitely be part of that plan.
