I wish they made a rule somewhere that in case of such incidents, if any pax are found evacuating with their bags during an emergency, then they will not be compensated. This rule should be on the in-flight safety card and also mentioned in the safety video.
Forget compensation, how about making it a criminal offence? Same as if you were smoking in the toilet. Your selfish action is delaying dozens of people behind you escaping from a cabin potentially filling with toxic smoke.
