I think the key is to make sure that the WorldTracer contact details are kept up to date. If not, it's definitely asking for trouble.

My delayed baggage on QF was handled appallingly.
They lost the PIR file and I was required to return to the airport at my cost at the crack of dawn to file the PIR again (!!). Complete disregard towards the inconvenience caused to me.
I was not kept updated. I was Qantas Platinum at the time, so maybe they took me for granted.
I got my bag back reasonably quickly but it was not a pleasant experience.
When BA delayed my baggage it was only when there were something going on at the airport - in fact all instances involved the snowmaggedon. Despite checking my bags with BA rather a lot, they haven't delayed my baggage very often.
They have damage a few but they handled them very well and certainly to my satisfaction.
