Yes, very highly likely to appear at some point. Only a handful per 1000s actually are never recovered.

No staff member, BA or not, will have any inclination to have a special look for you. I actually find contract staff more helpful in delayed baggage situations, as I think there must be some sort of KPI in their contract with BA that they must fulfil whereas BA struggles to get its own staff to give two hoots.
