Which gives me an opportunity to bring up my Richie Daley story:
Mother's Day 1991 or 92, my parents drove in to the city so we could have a Mother's Day Brunch in honor of (drum roll, please)- my mother! Of all places, we went to Como Inn (IIRC, many of the other suitably fancy restaurants in town were surprisingly closed), and I recall I had a delicious veal entree (what's the name of the style veal cooked in a way that is translated from Italian, "jumps-around-in-your-mouth"? I think the veal is rolled with chicken and cheese inside and topped with a sauce - rollatini?).
Anyway, as we were exiting the dining room, in came Mayor Richard Daley with his wife, and mother, Maggie, close behind. I recall he looked quite happy (he had just won a second term). I was going to congratulate him but like my brush with Jimmy Carter, I was too intimidated and quite young.
Sorry to hear that it's gone now, but that real estate must be simply worth a fortune today!
