We used to love Jimmy John's in college. It's good stuff, just not the best in the great scheme of things. Check out Potbelly's next time you're in Chicago. There's one downtown and one in Lincoln Park.

Jimmy John’s (a chain of sandwich shops) tag line is it has the “World’s Greatest Gourmet Sandwiches”.

After having three sandwiches from there, I have to disagree all three times.

The bread for the sandwiches is soft all over, think wonder bread made into a French baguette. I like crusty bread.

Jimmy John’s also states that “We use the leanest, highest quality meats” While lean may be good for a diet, fat is what flavors a meat so for lean is not always a good thing when it comes to taste. I do give Jimmy John’s a positive note in that the meats I had were all whole muscle meats (I used to sell meats) or in layman’s terms, a meat that is not chunk & formed, it is the natural muscle. That said, the beef I had was highly pumped (you could see the injection marks) so it did not have a real roast beef taste, kind of like the other two sandwiches I tried, they just lacked flavor.

There are better delis and better sandwich chains to choose, I would not choose Jimmy John’s.
