AFAIK 10/12 years is when heavy maintenance will be required and those costs are still relatively unknown for the A380. Also, you are correct 747's frequently operate well into their 20' and beyond. The average age of the DL 744's is 22.3 years, and the average age of the UA 744's is 20.9.
