Just a follow-up post to report that I again used Avis in Siem Reap, Cambodia, to rent a Ford Everest, and it again went off without a hitch. An agent met me at the airport with a sign, drove us to the Avis office, and had us complete the paperwork there. Arrangements were made for return on Sunday when the office is otherwise closed. Rather than haggle about avoiding a cleaning fee, I had the vehicle cleaned at one of the washing places on the east side of the river near the Wat Bo Bridge for 15000 riels.

Also, as promised, the Avis folks received and held onto my "permanent" Cambodian driving license, which I was then able to keep.
