I think "fairness" might be a factor if Marriott were a non-profit, but it is in fact a for-profit worldwide corporation, answerable to its shareholders.

Like many other such companies, they price their services towards that reality.

Were Marriott not to set certain special rates, Hilton, Starwood, IHG, Accor, Kempinski and countless others will gladly accept the business.
