Yes (assuming the flight goes from T3 - some DL flights still use T4, but not the JFK nonstop service).

And what the others have said. Insane to favour BA over DL...

You could always churn the miles from VS to Hilton then to BA. It's a 10:1 conversion rate I believe, 10k minimum and 5k increments, but at least you would get some Avios.
