One of the best brunches in NYC is Norma's in the Parker Meridian Hotel. It's a bit pricey, so you may also think about Sarabeth's Kitchen (there are 2 or 3 of those) or Balthazar in SoHo (make a reservation ahead of time for that one).

Great choices. All with something a little different to offer.

Norma's, located on West 57 street is 'stark' and dramatic. It's very expensive and worth every penny. Many Europeans in attendance. Not far from Central Park and those carriage rides gleff!

Sarabeths. One on Madison Ave in the 90's on the east side. The other on Amsterdam Ave and West 80th. This is a pretty place. Good food. Lots of 'society' and neighborhood people.

Balthazar would be my choice (and I've been to all 3). This is a very French bistro type of a place in Soho. And the Soho neighboorhood is a great place to hang out.
The food is outstanding and rivals Norma's. If selection is your thing, and or you like a wide assortment of breakfast type fish selection, in addition to the regular menu items, I'd say go here. And did I mention the french pastries...
