I treated myself to a nice lunch today at Michael Jordan's Steakhouse in Grand Central Station.
The restaurant is located upstairs, overlooking the main hall.
Great place to watch the action:
Commuters
NYC police
State Police
National Guard
Soldiers with rifles!
Lunch special is $23.
Choice of:
soup or caesar salad
Petite filet mignon or ahi tuna
cheesecake or 'death by chocolate' with ice cream (my words, not theirs).
Regular menu available. Steaks offered in the low $30's.
Fresh bread / rolls offered.
The wine list included several types of wine offerd by the glass; and also by a 3 oz serving. I've seen this a lot lately. And since it was lunch, I thought 3 oz. was a good idea.
The smaller serving of wine allowed me to spend the same amount I would have spent on a full glass; but I got to taste something more expensive.
I ordered an Italian Neibollo (sp) that was served cold. Hmm. Oh waiter, this wine is cold. Waiter responds that it will warm up shortly. Now since it's lunch, I have no intention of spending 2 hours dining waiting for the glass to warm up. He has a nice smile and returns with room temperature wine (this is how reds are usually served). I asked how he warmed up the wine? He told me he just poured it into a warm glass, and presto, the wine was room temperture. By the way, he comped the wine, which I thought wasn't necessary.
I enjoyed the caesar. This was served as leaves, long and tall; as opposed to traditional looking.
I had a very tasty petite filet mignon. It was served medium, as ordered. For a small portion, it turned out to be the right size for lunch. Served with the green stuff that Popeye loves to eat.
The deep rich chocolate cake came with a scoop of chocolate chip mint ice cream. The cake was so rich. I was smart enough to leave a few bites over so that I'd be able to walk in the afternoon.
Meal $23.00
tax 1.89
Total of $24.89. As I said the waiter comped the $8.50 3 oz glass of wine.
I left a $6. tip.
