Completely agree - although if OP was looking for a pristine beach I found the Marco Island location to have a beach that was more sharp seashell pieces than sand... The Clearwater Beach marriott resort is excellent - the beach across the street (they have a golf cart shuttle to drive you over) is fantastic and not crowded, while the resort pool and area are more geared towards families...
You are literally right there in Clearwater beach and have easy access to shops and restaurants.
