Aren't there a couple of Marriotts on the gulf coast of Florida that are supposed to be very good? Marco Island, Clearwater, etc.?
I've been to Marco Island pre-renovation and it was terrific. I don't recall anything really within walking distance, but taxis likely shouldn't be too expensive.
