Where's the value to the traveller in the two step process?
There are various codes printed on the slip after you have been finger printed, photo taken and answered the questions.
Last time I was asked 1 question by the officer - and that was 'how are you'! the person before was asked several.
The value is
1 you get to take your time in doing your finger prints without holding up everyone else - especially if you were behind someone who was slow (or a family) before the machines were introduced.
2 the machines pre-screen so the officer asks more targetted questions rather then all the questions
That overall saves time for everyone
