Looking for a less formal and less expensive way to enjoy the best of modern British cooking? We recently discovered
Golborne House in Notting Hill. It's got a nice fireplace in the restaurant, and it's just the place for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Populated as it is by music industry execs, dot-commers, design professionals, and fashionistas, Golborne House is a hotspot for seeing and being seen. But in spite of all the egos ballooning around, the ambience rates high on chillability. Really a gastro pub of a high order, Golborne House boasts a chef who once worked at the sainted River Cafe and here creates a modern British menu both daring and comforting. Try starters like roast butternut and black mustard seed soup with greek yoghurt, followed by mains like lamb chump chop with potato dauphinoise, sugar snap peas and mint and lemon pesto. Buzzing bar with an irresistable cocktail list and great coffees.
I believe the menu changes daily -- main courses are priced from £8-14, and reservations are recommended in the evenings.
