I have see this when there is a planned change of aircraft type. Unlinkely on DFW - SYD, but common on SYD-SCL ( switching between old 4 class aircraft and 3 class B747s)
Is a seat map appearing on apps like Seat Alerts?
Usually the seat map will appear closer to the flight. I find its best to wait and it will sort itself out, ( no one else can change their allocation so the "good seats" will still be there.
