PVG - LHR - My recent club world experience.

It always disappointing when I board my flight to / from China to see that the IFE system is the old style with the on/off button on the screen and a really limited selection of movies and poor pixel resolution. These 777s are also very worn around the edges. CW on these flights is not a premium experience although the crew are generally very good. The hard product experience is very different from the A380 to HKG although it's supposed to be the same product. Does anyone know when these old 777s will be removed from service or upgraded? Incidentally my first few UK - China trips were with newer 777s and the most recent IFE, it's only recently that I've more often than not had the older style.

On this trip I also opted (for the first time) for the Gluten free meal options. Breakfast was eggs with two bowls of fruit Dinner was unidentifiable with more, you've guessed it, fruit. I'd have been happy with these meals in WT, but it was disappointing in CW. Fortunately I had rock bottom expectations before boarding.

The champagne was nice though. Am I correct in saying there's now a choice of three where as it was a choice of two previously? I may be wrong on that.

Last but not least the new lounge at PVG is a vast improvement over the previous one - hot food selection (other than just congee and steamed buns) and an omelette station. However, I checked in at 5am for a 7am flight. I was told the lounge does not open until 6am so they gave me a 88rmb food voucher to use at any airport eatery. Fine, except no airport eaterie opened until 6am! This meant I had just 20 minutes in the lounge. Would you make a complaint? I'm thinking of doing so.

Flight was an hour delayed due to typical Chinese ATC games. Overall my experience (this is a regular route for me) was not a good one and the only saving grace were the crew (with the exception of one who was bordering on impolite with her attitude).
