Even better, invest in a system that has the caller read out their 6 character booking code. If there is a match, they get connected/re-routed to the concierge line.
In fairness to Mr. Smith I'm sure he knows this.

But he is also acutely aware that if their IT department tried to implement this it would likely take down their reservations systems for a period measured in days.

And it still wouldn't work.
