Having the customer enter the amount seems to just be asking for trouble. They would just change it to 0.01 or something ha.
I didn't try it, but I imagine the terminals can be programmed so that the customer entered amount can only be greater than or equal to the initially entered amount. For split checks, the server just does each person separately.
