From Detroit or Chicago, you can hit London anytime. Living near ORD in the 90's, we'd sometimes do it as a long weekend. Early days of "netsavers" fares -> $350 R/T in off-peak seasons. ^ Even today, you still see off-peak deals. (If the intent is to do the touristy things, then the best time to go is the dead of winter.) We had the advantage of $0 co-pay upgrades back then, but even when we had to slum it in coach, it's not *that* long of a flight.
If you're dying to go Maldives for the honeymoon, then go whole hog. Spend 5-6 days there and really enjoy it. The act of getting all the way *to* your hotel usually involves a boat or small plane beyond the international airport, so all that effort to just stay a couple days might be disappointing.
Maybe drop in a 3-4 day stopover in the Asian hub of your choice. CX premium cabin awards and some time in HK...that could make for a pretty cool trip. HK is one of my favorite cities in the world and I think you'll find a lot of FTers who agree and can provide lots of advice for things to do there.
That fits reasonably well into a two-week total itin, although I still think it's a looooong way to fly right after a wedding.
